The Minister of industry and Commerce and Leader of All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) Rishad Bathiudeen has called for a peaceful and a united approach to resolve unsettling conditions in Kandy District.
The Minister in a statement said that he has been continuously informed on the changing situation in Kandy District and as a result, he immediately contacted Prime Minister and Law & Order Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
“Accordingly, I have spoken to the Prime Minister and requested him for prompt action and I have been assured of speedy action on the safety of people, and their belonging.”
“I thank Prime Minister for his prompt response. I join him in his call to the communities to work in unity to achieve peace and reconciliation, which is one of the key pillars of the way forward vision for Sri Lanka by our Unity Government,” the Minister said in his statement.
The Minister, who visited Digana, Kandy after the violence erupted today in a Twitter post said it is very disturbing to see how a mosque in Digana has been vandalized. He expressed hope the situation will improve.
