COVID complications might remain lifetime even after recovery
With the speciality of the COVID variant from the third wave, the doctors cannot give an assurance of the patients’ well-being even after they were discharged from hospitals, because COVID complications might remain with them lifelong, Government Medical Offices’ Association (GMOA) General Committee Member Dr. Prasad Kolabage said.
He said complications after COVID pneumonia may not recover within a few days. The recovery period may be prolonging. Certain complications such as losing sense of smell could remain for lifelong, he said.
“Not like the first and second wave, the new COVID variant infected have to fight with COVID pneumonia and they have to rely on oxygen,” the doctor said.
Therefore, even after being discharged from hospitals, the COVID infected people should be very careful and should not get infected again and get into complications, Dr. Kolabage said.
“Complications such as heart attack, respiratory difficulties are as a result of COIVD virus. This virus is not an easy game for people to play with,” he said
“The critical situation is that we cannot give any assurances for those who had recovered from COVID after a certain period of time. Even after sending them home, they should be on high alert of their health condition. They should try to increase their immunity by consuming healthy foods,” he said.
Therefore, Dr. Kolabage warned the people to be extremely watchful of their health conditions and not to be complacent even after recovering from the viral attack.
