Parliament is unlikely to convene before November 16th, Government spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said today.
Speaking to reporters at the Prime Minister’s office today, Rambukwella said that so far no decision has been taken to convene Parliament next week.
He said that reports that Parliament will meet on November 7th was misleading.
Rambukwella said that the President has prorogued till November 16th and he has not issued notice to convene Parliament before that.
The Government spokesman also said that the new Government has the majority it needs to show in Parliament.
“If someone asks then why we are not convening Parliament, that is because that is in the President’s hands. We cannot convene Parliament,” he said.
He also said that on the first day of meeting the agenda for the next Parliament session will be decided.
