People of Iranaithivu, Pooneryn has started hunger strike demanding their resettlement at their native lands and the permission to stay there to get engaged in their livelihood activities on 2017.05.01 (May Day).
The families who were uprooted from Iranaithivu in 1992 have been staying at Iranaimatha Nagar. These people have been continuously demanding their resettlement at their native lands since 2009.
While they have been demanding their resettlement at their native lands since 2009 at the meetings held in Pooneryn Divisional Secretariat and Killinochchi District Secretariat, co-chairs of the Killinochchi District Coordinating Committee decided to go to Iranaithivu.
Though it has been reasoned out that occupying Sri Lankan Navy did not allow them to go to Iranaithivu, some politicians went to Iranaithivu and assured that they would get the permission for the people to go to Iranaithivu. As nothing happened so far, People of Iranaithivu, Pooneryn has started hunger strike demanding their resettlement at their native lands and the permission to stay there to get engaged in their livelihood activities on 2017.05.01 (May Day).
