Sri Lanka Police Department has taken measures to recruit 2,000 Tamil and Muslim youth to the Service.
Preliminary work has already commenced to recruit Tamil and Muslim youth from the North and East to the Police service.
Interviews to recruit constables and women constables commenced today (03) at the office of the Vavuniya Superintendent of Police.
Police say that Tamil and Muslim youths in the area are enthusiastic to join the service.
Assistant Superintendent of Police YGS Pinnaduwa stated that the educational qualifications as well as physical fitness of the candidates will be checked during the interviews.
Last year Amnesty noted that despite police investigations and a Presidential commission of inquiry, no one has been held accountable for these crimes.
