While it accused by various sections that space lack of space in Vavuniya Prison, the photos revealed recently confirmed it. Most of the prisoners imprisoned in Vavuniya Prison are remand prisoners and the prisoners related to the crimes such as petty crimes, abductions and possession of Ganja.
Despite the facilities available at this prison can only be able to imprison maximum 50 prisoners, more than 100 prisoners in some times more than 300 prisoners are imprisoned in this prison, according to the accusation made by Vanni parliamentarian Sivasakthi Ananthan.
Some photos that were taken in the Vavuniya Prison a few months ago got released. In these photos, prisoners slept in very congested manner due to the lack of space.
In some of these photos, prisoners are stacked lie goods. Due to this lack of space, prisoners are unable to fulfill the fundamental needs. Thus, prisoners are treated like animals in Vavuniya Prison.
