Northern youth for Democracy staged an attention drawn struggle demanding “We want our land” in front of the military headquarters in Kilinochchi.
This protest has been organized by the Northern youth for Democracy yesterday. This particular protest has been staged at Vavuniya and Omanthai in the morning, at Iranaimadu military camp in the afternoon and at Paravipanchan in the evening.
The youths covering their mouth with black clothes marched to Killinochchi Military Headquarters staged their protests in front of the Iranaimadu Kanakambigai temple.
They demanded the following slogans;
“Do not play the political drama in the land issues”
“The lands appropriated by the occupying Sri Lankan military should immediately be released”
Agricultural farms, animal farms, trade centers, restaurants and hostels are being run by the military soldiers in our lands which are the only source for our livelihoods. Our people are facing financial hardships though they have own lands in their native soil. That is why; Northern youth for Democracy demanded “We want our land”.
The placards carried by the protestors read the following;
“We want our land”
“Military regime in the north whereas democracy in the South”
“Whether the military or the government is in power?”
“For what, the military camps are located in front of the schools?”
“Promises will not bring justice”
The protestors made accusation that they were pushed to the position to down to the streets as their lands are yet to be released despite both the Mahinda’s regime and the government of good governance had given assurances that our lands would be released soon.
