Ranil accuses media of not giving fair coverage

by editorenglish

United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe today accused the media of not being fair in their coverage.

Speaking at a UNP rally in Kandy today, Wickremesinghe said that in Parliament yesterday, after the Mahinda Rajapaksa-led camp walked out, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, UNP MP Mangala Samaraweera and Tamil National Alliance leader R. Sampanthan made important speeches yet little or no coverage was given to those speeches.

He said that, instead, the media had focused on a press conference held by the Government.

“Was that more important? They could have used both then. Is this media freedom? They are trying to show only one side,” he said.

Wickremesinghe said that he ensured media freedom when he was the Prime Minister yet the media never understood that.

He says the media are now falling into the hands of the Mahinda Rajapaksa – Maithripala Sirisena coalition like they did when Mahinda Rajapaksa was President.
