A crucial meeting between Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, UNP Deputy Leader and Minister Sajith Premadasa and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has been scheduled today at 6.00 p.m. at Temple Trees.
The three leaders are expected to take a final decision on the UNP’s presidential candidate, a source from the Prime Minister’s office said yesterday. “They are scheduled to meet at 6.00 p.m. to discuss the UNP’s presidential candidate as well as the election to the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha,” the source said.
Although a meeting to discuss similar issues was scheduled to last Sunday between the Premier and Mr. Premadasa, the latter did not turn up.
Meanwhile, State Minister Ajith P. Perera said he responded to UNP General Secretary and Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam’s request to explain the alleged breach of party discipline. “I handed over my side of the story to the Minister yesterday,” he told the Daily Mirror.
Daily Mirror’s attempt to study State Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe’s stance on the same was unsuccessful as he failed to respond to the phone.
