Ousted Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday challenged the government to show its majority by winning the vote on the motion to cut financial allocations meant for the expenditure heads of the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister’s office on Nov 29 in parliament.
Addressing a meeting at Temple Trees Wickremesinghe said that the purported government did not have a majority in parliament. “That was why their MPs disrupt every possible attempt to take a vote. I challenge them to come to Parliament on 29th and participate in the vote if possible without disrupting it. If they cannot prove they have a majority in parliament then they have to give up their present campaign to form a purported government.
“A no-confidence motion has been passed against the government in parliament and there is neither a government nor a cabinet of ministers at the moment. So there will be no need for allocating funds for those offices.
“The motion against the prime minister will result in a victory for the Opposition parties, and with the passing of that motion, there will be no funds for the Prime Minister’s office to function,” Wickremesinghe said.
The meeting was held to inform the party organisers of the future courses of action.
Wickremesinghe said that he would face any challenge to win the motion against incumbent Prime Minister Rajapaksa.
