Activities of setting Sinhala settlements continue through “Mahaweli L Scheme” despite government stated that it would noto settle the Sinhalese by forcibly appropriating the lands in Mullaitivu district, TNA parliamentarian M.A.Sumanthiran stated.
Sumanthiran told the Medias about it yesterday. TNA’s objection letter in this regard would be proposed in the North-East Development Committee meeting to be held the next day, he added.
700 acres of land were grabbed in Mullaitivu district for “MAhaweli L Zone” and activities of settling the Sinhalese families in this area were being made. When the Prime Minister was made known about it, he assured that nothing would be happened like that. But those activities keep on moving, M.A.Sumanthiran highlighted.
Consequently, people of the Mullaitivu district will be in a plight to drop their lands and traditional fishing of the fisher folks of Mullaitivu district will be threatened, he further added.
