Sixteen students of Sri Jayewardenepura University have been suspended over the incident where a first year student sustained severe injuries at a ‘night party’ allegedly as a result of ragging, acting Vice Chancellor Senior Prof Sudantha Liyanage said.
He told the Daily News that the six students, who have been remanded in connection with the incident, are also among the suspended students.
He said the temporary class suspension would stand till the end of a proper disciplinary inquiry by a three-member committee. He said the committee comprises of a Medical Faculty lecturer and two lecturers who have studied law.
Pasindu Hirushan (20), a first year student of the Management Faculty, sustained brain injuries sustained by a huge tyre which was allegedly thrown at him by some senior students at the university premises at around 1.30am on March 6.
