Whilst welcoming the government’s decisions to impose travel restrictions and to focus on getting down COVID vaccines, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) today urged the government to allow the Muslims who are working in Colombo to go back to their villages to be with their families during Eid.
SJB MP S. M. Marikar who came up with these remarks at a press conference said Muslims who are working in Colombo and wish to spend the festival with their families back in their hometowns should be allowed to do it.
“We don’t oppose the government’s decision to impose travel ban, it was a very good move. However, we would be happy if the authorities allow the Muslims who work in the capital like to go back to their villages to celebrate Eid festival,” Mr. Marikar said.
“We also welcome the move to stop prayers at mosques on the festival day,” he added.
“SJB is happy that the government has decided to bring COVID vaccines at this decisive juncture, but it should publicise the purchase orders and payment invoices so that the public would be able to know the cost incurred on each vial, such as AstraZeneca, Pfizer Moderna, Sputnik-V and Sinopharm vaccines and the number of vaccine vials have been purchased and cost incurred to the government,” the MP added.
Also the SJB reiterated its call for an all party conference to discuss on the ongoing pandemic outbreak.
