A chaotic situation prevailed in Jaffna after some SLFP candidates contesting the forthcoming local government elections played some songs of the now defunct LTTE.
Number of politicians in Jaffna had complained to the Election Related Violence Centrers about the conduct of some politicians who had used the liberation songs of the Tigers in their campaigns when the elections commissioner had strictly instructed not to use such songs during the run-up to the local government election.
Although no complaint had been lodged with the police, officers of the special investigations unit had already launched an investigation into the incident.
Eyewitnesses said that they saw the youth taking part in the campaign had photographs of slain leader of the LTTE Velupillai Prabhakaran downloaded on their mobile phones and while those songs were being played, they were raising their hands high holding the mobile phones.
People in the north said it was a deliberate move by those responsible for it.
