Sri Lanka Army has released another 20 acres of land in Jaffna, used by the Army for service requirements on Monday on the account of Maha Shiva Rathri day.
The Army has released a total of 19.72 acres in Myliddy north and east inside the Palaly Army Cantonment and a portion adjoining it on Monday. A small portion (0.25 acres) of the released land in Myliddy belongs to the State while the remainder is owned by private owners.
Major General Dharshana Hettiarachchi, Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna, symbolizing the formal release of the lands, handed over relevant documents to the District Secretary for Jaffna, N. Vethanayahan in the presence of State officials and land owners during a simple symbolic ceremony held at the Thelippalai Divisional Secretariat on Monday.
The Army on the directions of the Commander of the Army and the President has been in the practice of releasing private and State lands in the past 2 – 3 years with the objective of strengthening bonds of goodwill, reconciliation and ethnic harmony and relations with Security Forces serving those areas.
