Sri Lanka’s Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa will visit India next week to strengthen economic partnership between the two countries, the High Commission of India in Colombo said.
“Keenly look forward to welcoming Hon’ble Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa to India next week. His visit will consolidate ongoing efforts to further strengthen India-Sri Lanka economic partnership,” the High Commission said in a Twitter message.
Sri Lanka was to seal a one-billion-dollar loan from India during the Rajapaksa visit, PTI reported.
In the mid of January, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar held a virtual meeting with the Sri Lankan Finance Minister and they discussed projects and investment plans by India that would strengthen the economy of Sri Lanka.
The two Ministers reviewed the progress in extending the Indian credit facility of USD 1 billion for importing food, essential items and medicine and USD 500 million for importing fuel from India.
Jaishankar conveyed that India had always stood with Sri Lanka, and will continue to support Sri Lanka in all possible ways for overcoming the economic and other challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
