The Ministry of Foreign Relations has taken steps to recall Sri Lankan diplomats from 10 foreign countries.
Accordingly, steps have been taken to recall ambassadors and high commissioners over the age of 60 serving in each country, a senior Foreign Ministry spokeswoman has told state-run Sinhala daily Dinamina.
The Ministry has taken steps to summon the Sri Lankan diplomats in the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in the UN in New York, Canada, Sweden, Egypt, Cuba, and the Netherlands as well as the heads of these missions.
The Ministry of Foreign Relations has said that all these diplomats have been summoned as they are over 60 years old and they have been instructed to terminate their service.
Meanwhile, former Minister Milinda Moragoda has been nominated as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India and former Foreign Secretary and former Permanent Representative to the UN in New York Dr. Palitha Kohona has been nominated as amabassador to China.
In addition, other suitable ambassadors and high commissioners will be appointed in the future to fill the vacant missions, according to the Foreign Ministry. Courtesy: Colombo Page
