Sri Lankan Navy on Monday (March 26) sunk a ship used by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the western seas of the island.
Sri Lanka Navy has taken the LTTE vessel, A522 named ‘We Ling” following the conclusion of the conflict and since then the ship has been anchored near the Colombo harbor under the Navy’s custody.
Since the ship was in an unusable condition, the government has decided to sink it in the sea according to proper procedures, and accordingly the Navy sunk the ship in the West Coast.
The Navy says the sunken ship will become a home to a number of aquatic animals and corals will grow inside making it an attraction for the divers and tourists.
Plans are being considered to make the location a tourist destination.
