Sri Lanka Navy has made arrangements to inaugurate the Colombo Naval Exercise (CONEX) as an annual exercise of the sea going force from this year onwards, the Navy Media Unit said.
Accordingly, the CONEX 19 is scheduled to be held from 26th to 29th January in the seas off Colombo with the participation of ships and craft of the Navy. The naval exercise will also mark the commencement of the ‘Sail Past’ rehearsals of the 71st Independence Day Parade.
The CONEX 19 will be complemented by both Harbor and Sea Phases in which a wide range of naval exercises including passage through mined waters, Replenishment at Sea (RAS) approaches, Towing Exercises (TOWEX) and Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) exercises are scheduled to be carried out.
The naval exercise serials common to contemporary international fleet exercises will be rehearsed during the sea phase in order to improve the professional standard of Sri Lanka Navy fleet.
Further, the exercise aims to improve the coordination aspects of fleet maneuvering necessary to display an impeccable ‘Sail Past’ during the forthcoming Independence Day Parade.
