Sri Lanka’s government ministers and ruling party parliamentarians today urged the Speaker to take necessary steps to punish the lawmakers found guilty of a series of illegal acts including the chili attack on police officers and destruction of public property.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said the matter has already been referred to the Attorney General’s Department and necessary steps have already been taken.
JVP Parliamentarian Bimal Ratnayake insisted that the Parliament should take action in this regard.
Leader of the House Minister Lakshman Kiriella also said that action should be taken against the 54 lawmakers involved in the incident. As it’s a violation of law.
Parliamentarian Prof. Ashu Marasinghe said already a year has been passed since the incident which is a black spot in the parliament history and the wrongdoers should be punished.
