President Maithripala Sirisena says if anyone is dreaming to form governments in the wake of people brought by buses to fill a ground then it is joke.
Addressing a function held in Polonnaruwa today to hand over land deeds to settlers in Mahaweli zones, the President pointed out that those who said that black flags would be hoisted during the visit of the Indian Prime Minister, had secretly met him in the night.
The function to hand over 100,000 Mahaweli land deeds was held Monday at the Wilayaya Maha Vidyalaya in Aralaganwila under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.
President Sirisena presented 10,000 land deeds to the people of the Mahaweli B and C Zones consolidating the heritage of the land of birth of the Mahaweli people.
Speaking at the event, the President said the Government had launched many massive projects for the development of the agricultural sector of the country.
He said the necessary financial provisions were released to reconstruct over 600 old reservoirs in the Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee and Kurunegala districts with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Tenders are being called for contractors to carry out the reconstruction work.
He revealed of plans to launch development work related to the Maduru Oya Southern Bank this year. People in areas, especially in Ampara, Batticaloa, will benefit from this work.
Further speaking, the President said some people are “day dreaming” to change the government. He asked whether it is ethical for groups that protested against the Indian Prime Minister’s visit to hold secret talks with him at late night.
The President said the Indian High Commissioner informed him that the people who wanted to hoist black flags during Prime Minister Mody’s visit are seeking an appointment with the Indian leader and asked for his opinion. The President has told the High commissioner to allow them to meet the Indian Premier.
The 2017 livelihood development program was launched parallel to this event. Equipment was distributed covering several Divisional Secretariat Divisions within the Polonnaruwa District. Water Filter Networks and Water tanks were distributed among schools and temples.
Members of the Maha Sangha and the clergy of other religions, Ministers and Parliamentarians were among the large gathering present.
