Sri Lanka’s President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today stressed that the entire country will not be locked-down at all due to the spreading of coronavirus.
President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa emphasized that it is important to keep the country open as well as to control the spread of COVID-19 virus in the country.
Speaking at a discussion held Wednesday regarding the control of the COVID-19 virus in the country, the President said that when making decisions regarding the country, correct decisions should be taken focusing on the whole process.
“Everyone including President, ministers, health staff and people must understand the status of economy of the people who lives on daily wages and businesses,” the President said.
“If people put on the mask, wash their hands properly, and follow the correct procedures, the country can be run without any problems. A country can be run if the people pay attention. Those who get a monthly salary do not care if the country closes. But for the self-employed and business people, if it is closed for 10 days, it will probably take a year to cover the loss. We cannot think only about one side.”
“We cannot afford to close down the country anticipating a cure for COVID-19 would be discovered,” the President said.
