Sri Lankan military states that 1300 acres of privately owned lands are still in being occupied by them in northern and eastern provinces. They have handed over 25.000 acres of lands to the owners since 2015, January, the Sri Lankan military officials highlighted. The lands, which do not threat the national security, have been handed over like this, they added.
In accordance with the president’s advise, action plan having 5 years of working time in order to survey the lands released in the northern and eastern provinces has been carried out.
Under this action plan, which was started in the year 2015, 95% of the lands have been handed over to the relevant owners and only 5% of lands are yet to be released, the military officials pointed out. People resettled at many places including Palali, Killinochchi, ullaitivu, Keppapilavu and Mayiliddi hasve been handed over the lands like this.
President Maithripala Srisena already ordered the officials to release the lands occupied by the military before 31st of this coming month. The Sri Lankan military, which had been occupying the 84, 509 acres of Tamils’ lands will have been occupying 12,000 acres of Tamils’ lands after 2018. These 12,000 acres of lands will not be released due to the concerns on national security and some other reasons, the occupying Sri Lankan military highlighted.
