Thirty Navy personnel at Welisara base contract virus

Thirty Navy personnel attached to the Sri Lanka Navy base in Welisara have contracted the coronavirus.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said that the camp has now been declared an isolation area.

He said that tests conducted on Navy personnel who had come in contact with a coronavirus infected sailor had confirmed that 30 of them were infected.

After the first sailor was confirmed to have contracted the virus, tests were carried out by sending all the sailors in his camp to be quarantined.

With tests confirming that 30 of them had contracted the virus all those attached to the camp and on leave have been asked to be tested for the virus.
