A petition has been filed before the Supreme Court yesterday against the former Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva over Contempt of Court.
Senior Prof. Chandraguptha Thenuwara, Prof. Hewa Waduge Cyril, and Senior Prof. Prashantha Gunawardena filed the petition.
The petitioners have stated that recent remarks made by the former Chief Justice during a meeting organised by the ‘Jathika Ekamuthuwa’ organisation in Maradana on 12 March is in Contempt of Court and should be held as such.
They have further mentioned that the former Chief Justice had made another statement of this sort on 18 October.
The petitioners have sought the Supreme Court to launch an investigation in this regard and hold former Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva responsible under the law accordingly.
