The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) yesterday released its manifesto for the 5th August Parliamentary election, which assures continued efforts to achieve a political solution for the Tamils.
In releasing the manifesto in Jaffna yesterday, the TNA said that the alliance is prepared to work with the South to take forward Constitutional reforms.
However, the TNA also asserts the need to strengthen the 19th Amendment to the Constitution and ensure democracy.
TNA spokesman M.A. Sumanthiran told reporters at the launch that the TNA is the only alliance which can ensure the rights of the Tamils are protected.
He said that certain Tamil groups are contesting the election with the intention of securing only one or two seats in Parliament.
Sumanthiran said that such attempts will not serve the interests of the Tamils.
The TNA manifesto also notes the importance of implementing the UN Human Rights Council Resolution on Sri Lanka, which the current Government has withdrawn from.
The manifesto also looks at issues related to political prisoners, land, militarisation of the North and East and rehabilitated LTTE cadres.
