The United Left Front (ULF) led by parliamentarian Dr. Jayampathy Wickramaratne has decided to leave the United National Front (UNF) led by United National Party (UNP) and support the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the upcoming presidential election.
The central committee of the ULF, which was formed by sections of the Lanka Sama Samaja Party and the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, has taken the decision to leave the ruling alliance, the General Secretary of the ULF Lal Wijenayake said.
Accordingly, the Central Committee has decided to support the JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the presidential election on November 16, he said.
UNF national list MP Jayampathi Wickramaratne said that he would ask the people to vote for Anura Dissanayake and cast a second preference.
He also urged the people to cast their second preference for the candidate strongly against the SLPP candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
