Vavuniya North is being Sinhalicized hurriedly. But, the Tamil leadership, who delivers only reports about it, has not taken any constructive steps to halt this Sinhalicization, according to the people of that area.
Even before the ethnic issue got intensified, Sinhalization by setting up the Sinhala settlements were ongoing in the Vavuniya North. However, the Sinhalization is being hurriedly carried out after 2009. Ethnic majoritarian people are intentionally settled in the Vavuniya North and the Tamil names of the villages there are changed to Sinhala names. Meanwhile, the government helps these Sinhala settlers and motivates them to settle in Vavuniya North.
Sinhalization by erecting the Buddhist monuments, settling the Sinhalese by deforesting and changing the names of the native Tamil villages into Sinhala is continuously carried out.
These Sinhala settlements, which are being set up with the intent to demographic change, are hurriedly set up even by this government also with the intention of entirely appropriating Mullaitivu north and east.
Meanwhile, it is accused by the people that political leaders just deliver the reports without taking any constructive steps to halt the Sinhalization. The people demand the political leaders who give support to the present government to at least halt the Sinhalization that is being hurriedly carried out by the government.
