Chung met Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday (4) for the first time since assuming duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new US Ambassador emphasized that she was seeking to further strengthen the existing political, social and economic ties with Sri Lanka, Prime Minister\u2019s Office said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ambassador Chung said that the United States will help keep the Sri Lankan economy strong in the face of the covid-19 epidemic and also expressed confidence that the U.S. would assist in the development of Sri Lanka&#8217;s energy and tourism sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Premier assured that the Government of Sri Lanka will work to maintain the existing relations between the United States and Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Prime Minister offered congratulations and best wishes to Ms., Chung for success in her new post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">State Minister Tharaka Balasuriya and Secretary to the Prime Minister Anura Dissanayake were also present on the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Courtesy: Colombo Page<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie J.
