Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D Wickramaratne has instructed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to arrest those responsible for the Rambukkana shooting incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Police opened fire on a group of protesters in Rambukkana killing one person and injuring a number of others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police Spokesman, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nihal Thalduwa had said that the Police had opened fire after initially using tear gas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that the Police had opened fire when the protesters had allegedly attempted to set fire to the fuel truck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Police, the protesters had blocked the railway track and protested in the area for several hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Police had advised the protesters to cleat the tracks but the request was rejected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Police, the protesters had then set fire to a three-wheeler and attempted to set fire to the fuel truck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Police had opened fire on the protesters killing Chaminda Lakshan and injuring at least 24 others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Police media unit said that a number of policemen were also injured in the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Police Special Task Force (STF) was later deployed to the area to try and control the situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
