{"id":11858,"date":"2022-05-20T08:03:15","date_gmt":"2022-05-20T08:03:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globaltamilnews.net\/english\/?p=11858"},"modified":"2022-05-20T08:03:16","modified_gmt":"2022-05-20T08:03:16","slug":"sri-lanka-imf-technical-talks-to-end-on-may-24th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/globaltamilnews.net\/english\/sri-lanka-imf-technical-talks-to-end-on-may-24th\/","title":{"rendered":"Sri Lanka &#8211; IMF technical talks to end on May 24th"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says it expects to conclude technical discussions on a potential IMF loan program to Sri Lanka on the 24th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IMF Spokesman Gerry Rice said in a virtual press conference Thursday that the IMF is closely monitoring Sri Lanka\u2019s political and economic developments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are concerned, of course, about the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka and especially, the hardships, being endured by the people of Sri Lanka and especially many of those people poor and vulnerable. So we are clearly monitoring the political and economic developments very closely,\u201d Rice said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Spokesman said an IMF team has been engaged in technical discussions on the authorities\u2019 request for an IMF supported program and the IMF has asked for the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere is currently a virtual IMF Staff mission engaged in those technical talks with the Sri Lankan authorities.
