Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena presented a preliminary draft for the establishment of a National Council, consisting of all the parties represented in parliament, to the party leaders during the party leaders\u2019 meeting held on Monday at the Parliament complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government\u2019s proposal regarding the establishment of sectoral monitoring committees in the Parliament was also discussed at the party leaders\u2019 meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The party leaders expressing different opinions, said the aim of the National Council should be to guide to take policy decisions by common consent of the parties in Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was also decided to obtain the views of the respective parties in writing regarding the proposal drafted by the government on the National Council and Sectoral Monitoring Committees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was also decided to prepare a new and improved draft with those ideas and present it to the party leaders\u2019 meeting which will be reconvened on Friday September 02 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government\u2019s proposal to set up 17 sectoral monitoring committees and add 3 more to the existing 12 standing committees was also presented to the party leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leaders of parties and groups representing Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, Samagi Jana Balawegaya, Sri Lanka Freedom Party, independent parties, Ceylon Workers\u2019 Congress, United National Party, EPDP, National Congress etc. attended this meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this regard, a meeting of party leaders was also held on 12 August 2022 at the Parliament complex under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister and all the party leaders representing the Parliament participated in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
