The Government today asserted that while it maintains good diplomatic relations, it will not agree to be dictated to by any country.<\/p>\n
Minister of Petroleum and Petroleum Gas Chandima Weerakkody told reporters that the Government will ensure Sri Lanka\u2019s sovereignty is protected.<\/p>\n
The Government of President Maithripala Sirisena will on Sunday celebrate two years in office after winning the January 2015 Presidential elections and ousting former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.<\/p>\n
Since taking office the Government has looked to strengthen diplomatic relations with the United States and has also looked to expand ties with China and India.<\/p>\n
Weerakkody said that the Government will however decide what\u2019s best for its people and not be directed by a foreign Government.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis country is managed by our Government for our people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Weerakkody said that under the policies of President Maithripala Sirisena the Government has been able to build a good relationship with all countries.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have not got angry with anyone,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The Government has been accused by the opposition of making decisions based on the expectations of western Governments.<\/p>\n
