Land surveying activities with the intention of seizing the 18 acres of land belonging to the people in order to set up a permanent Navy Camp has been halted following the fierce opposition of the land owners and the people at Mandaitivu in Jaffna.<\/p>\n

This protest has been staged in front of the Mandaitivu East Amman Temple yesterday (Thursday) at 9 AM.<\/p>\n

The occupying Sri Lankan Navy who has been occupying the Mandaitivu East which is come under the Velanai Divisional Secretariat set up a Navy Camp after appropriating 18 acres of lands belonging to 11 land owners.<\/p>\n

Occupying Sri Lankan Navy is in an attempt to permanently seize these lands to set up a permanent Navy Camp there. As the first step, the Navy has been making attempt of seizing these lands legally.<\/p>\n

Thus, the land owners were informed in written by the Land Surveying Department stating that the land surveying activities would be done for the acquisition of those lands.<\/p>\n

Land owners, people and the public organizations fiercely opposed this attempt and ultimately halted it.<\/p>\n

Land surveying officers left from there without measuring those lands following the fierce opposition of the people of that area.<\/p>\n
