Tamil youths have commenced activities of sending Clemency Petition to the President Maithripala Srisena urging the release of Satchithananthan Ananthasuthakaran, who had been arrested in 2008 and was sentenced to life last year when he had been languishing in the Magazine Prison.
Following the consultation given by the legal experts stating that the release of Ananthasuthakaran can be speeded up by sending Clemency Petitions, Tamil youths commenced the activities collecting Clemency Petitions from the public organizations in the north and east to be sent to the President Maithripala Srisena.
Public Organizations and Youth Organizations in all districts of the north and east can be able to get the sample Clemency Petitions to be signed and these petitions can be handed over to the organizers after being signed.
It is noted that these Clemency Petitions that were translated into Tamil can be sent directly or via email to the Public Organizations and Youth Organizations to get signed. And then, it would be sent to the President Maithripala Srisena within a week. All are invited to participate in this regardless of the political differences.
It is highly supposed to send more than thousand Clemency Petitions to the President, according to the organizers.
