Continuing deaths in the Eastern Province due to microfinance -Reporter for Global Tamil News-

Continuing suicidal deaths due to microfinance are reported in the northern and eastern provinces. Like the Batticaloa district, suicidal deaths due to microfinance are getting increased.

While a woman committed suicide due to debt burden because of the microfinance last month at Akkaraipatru village, a young woman of Palaveli village of Valathapatru in Sammanthurai has committed suicide by consuming Arali Seeds now.

24-year-old Prashanthini, mother of two children committed suicide due to the continuous mental torture of the officers of a microfinance.

She borrowed more than three microfinance loans. She, who got frustrated because of the intimidations of the officers of a microfinance since she could not be able to pay the loan money back, has committed suicide by consuming Arali seeds.

Deaths due to microfinance are getting increased in Batticaloa district.

55 suicidal deaths occurred in Batticaloa district within 5 months since the birth of year 2018.

97 suicidal deaths in 2016, 116 suicidal deaths in 2017 and 53 suicidal deaths within 5 months in this year occurred in Batticaloa district. Meanwhile, 59 persons committed suicide in the Northern Province due to microfinance.
