Northern Provincial Council term ends

by editorenglish

The term of the Northern Provincial Council ended last night. The last Northern Provincial Council was elected to office in September 2013.

C.V. Wigneswaran contested under the Tamil National Alliance and won the election and was appointed Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, British High Commissioner James Dauris raised concerns over the delay to hold elections for the Provincial Councils for which the terms have ended.

“Many people will be disappointed that the term in office of a sixth of #SriLanka’s nine Provincial Councils has expired without voting for new representatives taking place or planned. Timely #elections are key to ensuring that the values of #democracy flourish in our countries,” James Dauris tweeted.
