A letter signed by 100 government parliamentary members has been sent to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa requesting an inquiry into the release of Riyaj Bathiudeen, a brother of MP Rishad Bathiudeen, who was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the terrorist attack on Easter Sunday on 21 April 2019.

The ruling party group in Parliament has sent this letter to the President on October 9. The letter was handed over to the President and the Prime Minister at Temple Trees Friday (9).

Riyaj Bathiudeen was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the Easter Sunday attack on April 14 this year. The police stated that the suspect had a direct connection with a suicide bomber involved in the Easter attack. However, after detaining him five months Police released Riyaj Bathiudeen due to a lack of evidence to prove the charges against him.

The letter to the President and the PM states that Riyaj Bathiudeen, a brother of MP Rishad Bathiudeen, has been released without being produced in court despite evidence that he had aided and abetted the terrorist attack on Easter Sunday.

The letter states that Riyaj Bathiudeen was released without any legal permission.

Therefore, the ruling party MPs have requested the President and the Prime Minister to arrest him again and enforce the law.
