22nd Anniversary of the Saint Peters Church Massacre commemorated yesterday. -Reporter for Global Tamil News-

22nd Anniversary of the Air bombardment on Navaly Saint Peters Church has been commemorated yesterday evening.

A prayer guided by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Ferdinand has been observed yesterday evening at the Saint Peters Church. Subsequently, relatives of those who were brutally killed in the Air bombardment have paid floral tribute at the monument located near the Church. Ananthi Sasitharan, the Northern Provincial Minister of Women Affairs and one of the Northern Provincial Councilors M.K.Sivajilingam took part in this event.

147 Tamils were killed on 1995.07.09 in the Air bombardment carried out by the 3 Air Fighters which bombed 13 bombs over the Navaly Saint Peters Church and Navaly Kathirkamam Murugan Temple.

On that day, Sri Lankan Military carried out a military operation named “Leap Forward” by shelling heavily and carrying out Air strikes towards Valikamam areas.

Consequently, the people of these areas displaced from their habitat due to the serial shelling and stayed at Navaly Saint Peters Church and Navaly Kathirkamam Murugan Temple as refugees.

On that day morning, 3 Air Fighters of the Sri Lankan Air Force carried out Air bombardment by throwing 13 bombs over Navaly Saint Peters Church and Navaly Kathirkamam Murugan Temple. 147 including children and women were killed and more than 350 got severely injured in that brutal incident.
