An agreement has been reached on amendments to the Muslim Marriage Act, Parliamentarian Faiszer Musthapha said today.
He said the amendments to the Muslim Marriage Act were unanimously agreed upon after discussions with all the Sri Lankan Muslim Parliamentarians.
It has been proposed that the age of marriage for both the bride and the groom should be 18 years.
The bride should sign the Register of Marriage as a sign of her consent.
It has also been proposed to upgrade the required qualification of a Kadi to Attorney-at-Law.
An agreement has also been reached to permit female Kadis (Women who will adjudicate family law of Muslims).
