Agreement to purchase vaccines from India approved

The Purchase Agreement to secure COVID-19 vaccines from India, has been approved by Attorney General (AG) Dappula de Livera.

The AG’s Coordinating Officer, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said the AG approved the Purchase Agreement subject to amendments.

The agreement is between the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation of Sri Lanka and the Serum Institute of India Pvt Ltd.

Sri Lanka is set to purchase a large stock of vaccines from Serum Institute of India Pvt Ltd.

Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield vaccine is being manufactured by the Serum Institute.

India has already gifted 500,000 Covishield vaccines to Sri Lanka.
