Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has sought Chinese investment for construction of the Kaduwela-Meerigama stretch of the central expressway and the expedition of work on the extension of the southern expressway up to Hambantota, Daily Mirror learns.
The Prime Minister handed over a list of investment proposals to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi when he called on him on January 14.
The government is planning to obtain a loan from EXIM bank of China.
The 2010/2015 government led by Mr. Rajapaksa made initial arrangements for the implementation of this project. However, it did not take off during the last five years under the former government.
The work on the Meerigama-Pothuhera segment of the central expressway has progressed. The contract is yet to be awarded for the construction of the final segment up to Galagedara in Kandy.
