Citizens’ movement protests against behaviour of MPs

A citizens’ movement staged a protest at Independence Square today against the behaviour of Parliamentarians in Parliament last week.

The ‘Rise Up Sri Lanka’ protest saw several people comment and express outrage at the manner in which some MPs behaved in Parliament last week.

“Sri Lankan democracy has reached its darkest hour. We like to remind you that this is not the first time that we have been let down by our political leadership. Rise Up Sri Lanka was born from the desire to channel our emotions and principles towards constructive action,” Rise Up Sri Lanka said on its event Facebook.

“It is imperative that we make clear to those who continue to threaten and mock our democratic rights that our resolve is stronger and our numbers are greater and that we will not allow our nation to be destroyed. We will not watch silently or helplessly any longer,” organisers added.

Rise Up Sri Lanka is a citizens movement and is not affiliated with any political party.
