by editorenglish

Several Civil society organizations in Sri Lanka yesterday staged a protest in front of the Prime Minister’s official residence Temple Trees demanding the government to take measures to prevent cruelty to animals.

The protesters urged the government to enforce the law against the perpetrators of animal abuse including the suspect in the recent burning of a pet dog in Negombo and tighten the existing laws.

The Civil society organizations also handed over a memorandum of their demands to the Public Relations Division of the Prime Minister’s Office.

A 38-year-old man was arrested in Periyamulla today for allegedly burning and inhumanely killing a pet Labrador dog at a house in Koppera Junction in Negombo on New Year’s Eve.
