Curfew extended in Northern Province districts

The ongoing curfew will now be extended to 6 am on Tuesday, March 24 in five districts in the Northern Province in addition to the districts of Colombo, Gampaha and Puttalam.

The curfew in districts of Mannar, Vavuniya, and Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi & Jaffna districts has been extended till 6.00am on Tuesday (24).

Curfew in these districts will be lifted at 6 am on 24 March and will be re-imposed at 2pm on the same day.

People living in 5 districts in the North are prohibited from moving out of their respective districts.

The ban is in effect until all those who have visited and associated with a coronavirus-infected pastor, who arrived from Switzerland recently in the Northern Province and held mass religious sermons, are identified.

This decision has been taken to protect the people living in 5 districts from being infected with the coronavirus.

The government calls on the people in the North to fully cooperate with the government to ensure the safety of the people of the North.

Meanwhile, the curfew in other districts will be lifted at 6.00 am on Monday (23) and will come to effect again at 2.00pm on the same day. This will be effective till 6.00 am on Tuesday (24).

People will not be allowed to travel outside their area of residence during the curfew until further notice.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in a Twitter message requested all the Sri Lankans to adhere to laws and measures taken by the government to control Coronavirus spread within the country.
