Sri Lanka Parliament Wednesday afternoon approved the implementing Emergency Regulations in the country for a month.
The resolution presented by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe under the Public Security Ordinance, to implement emergency regulations in the country through the Proclamation made by the President was approved without a vote.
Accordingly, Emergency Regulations will be in force for a period of 30 days.
President Maithripala Sirisena in a gazette notification declared a State of Emergency in Sri Lanka to maintain public security and essential services.
The Extraordinary Gazette notification stating that the clauses that deal with the Prevention of Terrorism will be brought under Emergency Regulations granting additional powers to security forces was issued on the 22nd of April.
