The Sun is directly over Sri Lanka this week and the Meteorology Department has warned of extreme heat in several districts of the island.
The Southern region will be the worst affected by this phenomenon. The Department has issued a severe heat advisory for other districts as well and urged people to remain cautious.
People have been advised not to linger outside for too long in extreme heat conditions even during the periods when the curfew is relaxed. Exposure to such excessive hot weather could cause heat strokes, cramps and heat exhaustion. People are advised to drink plenty of water.
The dry weather condition has led to a drought in many parts of the country.
