Former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has announced that he has taken steps to inform the current party leadership as well as party seniors that he can accept the challenge of leading the United National Party (UNP) for the betterment of the party and the country.
Issuing a media statement Former Speaker said he has taken the decision after carefully considering the requests made to him by many parties to lead the party and he will firmly and unwaveringly commit himself to all the duties and responsibilities that he has to fulfill for the betterment of the people and the country.
“Given the current state of confusion, I have considered the requests made to me by many parties, and I have informed the present party leadership as well as the party seniors that I can take up the challenge of leading the UNP for the betterment of the party and Sri Lanka.”
“That decision was taken by me on behalf of the United National Party and the future of Sri Lanka and the just and patriotic people and I emphasize that I will firmly and unwaveringly commit myself for all the duties and responsibilities that I have to fulfill for the betterment of our motherland,” the former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said.
