Former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa has sought to relinquish his US citizenship in order to qualify to contest the next Presidential elections, local media reported today.
The ‘Aruna’ newspaper reported that he has already submitted papers to the US Embassy to relinquish his US citizenship.
Meanwhile, the Sunday Lankadeepa newspaper reported that Gotabaya Rajapaksa is to be named the Presidential candidate of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP).
It was reported that the decision was taken at a special meeting held at the residence of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
