Prof. GL Peiris, Minister of Education, said that although the present government has formulated new rules and regulations in line with the Vision of Prosperity Policy Statement aimed at building a society full of values, the burning issues of the country cannot be solved by amendments to the rules alone.
The Minister made this observation participating in an event held at the Temple Trees today in connection with the “Pirivena Waruna” National Program held at Temple Trees under the patronage of the President to award foreign scholarships to 20 student monks who obtained the highest marks in the final examination of the Pirivena and the Oriental Preliminary Examination.
The Minister also participated in launching the official website of the State Ministry of Dhamma Schools, Pirivenas and Bhikku Education and presentation of educational equipment.

He said the government of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is ready to provide the necessary support, resources and environment for this. The Minister may recalled a similar program initiated by the Anuradhapura Shanthi Viharaya during the tenure of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
